Celluloid
Celluloid is a very tough material when it is fully cured. It is semi transparent material produced by mixing nitric-cellulose (sulfuric acid and nitric acid are added to cellulose), camphor and alcohol. It achieves splendid marble like result when coloured. Since this material is mixed, each an every pen will never be the same. The marble like pattern and fibre together with the “depth” of the transparency of the material make every  pen unique. No two pieces are alike.

Celluloid material can be very stubborn and require long curing process in the oven. It is “baked” in the oven 24/7 for months and sometimes years. With the technology advancement of resin and plastics, manufacturers can produce celluloid like material with resins. Japanese and Italian pen manufacturers are the remaining few left still producing pens out of true celluloid.

Given the tough curing, time consuming and expensive material used, Nakaya celluloid pens still offer great value.
