NAMIKI ORIGAMI NIPPON ART SERIES
Namiki celebrates the extraordinary beauty of the traditional Japanese art with the release of its latest Origami Nippon Art Series. Origami, which means “paper folding”, is believed to be an integral part of the Japanese culture since the Showa era.
Today, the meaning of Origami has evolved from a token of exchange at formal ceremonial events, to a creative pastime enjoyed by Japanese and people all over the world. Simple as it appears, this fascinating art form brings new surprises with different combinations of geometric folds, often revealing an interesting kaleidoscope of colours and patterns.
Using the Hira Maki-e, a flat lacquer decoration technique, the Origami designs are
meticulously hand painted with E-urushi (coloured urushi) on the surface of the pen, and
polished after the masterpiece is hardened. The Namiki Origami Nippon Art Series
brilliantly showcases the multi-coloured and vibrant Japanese customs through five iconic representations – Crane, Rabbit, Kabuto, Goldfish and Penguin.
