Sailor Limited Edition King of Pens (KOP) Maki-e Hanafuda Tsukimi-de-ippai Fountain Pen
The Sailor King of Pens “Hanafuda” Limited Edition fountain pen collection pays homage to Japanese artistry and tradition, and is available in two distinct versions, Ino-Shika-Cho and Tsukimi-de-Ippa, each with its own rich, evocative design inspired by classic Hanafuda themes.
Hanafuda is a Japanese card game that spread throughout Japan in the 18th century. Each card depicts a scene that symbolizes one of the 12 months, based on the seasons or traditional events of the lunar calendar. Players compete to score points by creating specific combinations from the 48 cards. Hanafuda is therefore a game that requires both luck and intelligence, and it is still enjoyed by people today.
Translating to “A Moonlit Drink,” the Tsukimi-de-ippai version features a grey-blue body with a burgundy cap that celebrates the serene beauty of a moonlit night. The design captures the tranquility of Japan’s autumn season, a time traditionally associated with moon-viewing festivities.
The Sailor KOP Hanafuda features Yubi maki-e underdrawings, and carefully handcrafted by applying maki-e individually by hand. It is a fusion of modern and traditional maki-e techniques and is a maki-e fountain pen unlike any other.
Available in two designs, each pen comes with KOP size 21k gold nib (M and B).
